When I first sat down and started this blog in mid-December 2013, it was designed to be both a strong resource for Australians wanting information on the green card immigration process and also a way for my loved ones back home and elsewhere in the US to keep up with what’s happening in my world without me having to write a million different emails (I’m a lazy dick, there’s no hiding that).

In self-assessing my fulfillment of those two goals, I think this has probably become a lot more of an insight into my psyche than I intended (or really expected) it to be. For obvious reasons it focuses almost solely on me and, even though there are a lot of people who make cameos, I haven’t explored much about the other characters in my day-to-day existence.

So with that in mind, I’ve decided to delve further into that side of things. I’ve spent four months (at the time of writing) being asked what my story is everywhere I go and by everyone I meet. Honestly it sounds kind of boring coming out of my mouth by this point. So over the next few months I’m going to interview the other characters in my Maine story: the people I interact with on a regular basis.

Maine is the type of state that seems to attract a lot of people from other places, as well as a magnet for those who were born here, both factors of which make for some cool stories. I’ve got a list of about 15 people, some around my age, some older. Some are dyed in the wool Mainers, others are transplants.

So enough with the foreshadowing. My intention, sometime after December this year, is to take whatever stories I can solicit from the people whose paths I’ve crossed with the quasi-essays and experiences from this blog, as well as some original content that doesn’t make the blog for various reasons, and compile them into a book that I’ll self-publish in some way, shape or form. I’ll probably try to pitch it to someone, if only because you can’t win if you don’t play, but I don’t have any expectation that it would be marketable enough to get picked up.
